I know, you can’t wait for it, we were just waiting to finish the school year and gear up for summer and then in a flash – back to school. If you haven’t been reminded enough about that dreaded early September day, Pop-Up shops are setting up to keep you informed while filling the demand. Many retailers are going to be testing out the retail pop up shop model for back to school with much success over the recent holiday seasons. The low-risk advantage for large retailers is taking on a temporary store sized at around 2000 square foot space allows them to get brand awareness and test out areas while targeting a specific hot purchasing period. Given the small floor-space of the stores, retailers will carry smaller items, in hopes of driving the consumer online to finish their back to school needs.
Jansport, the trendy backpack company is a perfect example. With high demand during the back to school season they have opened a pop up shop to fill demand. Target setup a pop up shop type store at various universities where student can scan the displayed item’s QR code and purchase the product form their smartphone. Toys R Us, who kept a series of pop up shops open after a successful holiday season will carry educational toys to feed the buying season and lastly Bed Bath Beyond who’s pop up shops will sell dorm room items.
Enjoy the sun while it lasts, homework is on its way!
