Size-Pack Optimization
A Perfect Fit
Prepacks can contain pre-determined quantities of all sizes, a mix of smaller sizes, or a mix of larger ones depending on site specifics such as customer demographics. For example, one prepack can include items that are sold the most and serve all stores; a second prepack can be created for one “extreme,” that is, an area where a specific size or ranges of sizes is predominant, and so on.
After analyzing sales performance, size runs that sold well can be replicated; alternatively, new size runs can be created. Buyers can, of course, make modifications to numbers one by one manually anytime.

What is size-pack optimization in retail?
Size-pack optimization in retail is the process of determining the best size mix and pack quantities for each store, region, or channel based on historical sales, local demand, and inventory goals. It helps retailers send the right size ratios to the right locations to improve sell-through and reduce imbalances.
What does size-pack optimization software do?
Size-pack optimization software helps retailers analyze past sales and demand patterns to recommend the most effective size curves and pack configurations. It supports better inventory distribution by aligning size assortments with store-specific demand, helping reduce overstocks in slow-moving sizes and stockouts in high-demand sizes.
Why is size-pack optimization important for apparel retailers?
Size-pack optimization is especially important for apparel retailers because customer demand varies significantly by size, location, and product type. Optimizing size packs helps retailers improve product availability, increase full-price sales, reduce markdown risk, and make better use of inventory investment.
How does size-pack optimization improve inventory performance?
Size-pack optimization improves inventory performance by making sure inventory is distributed according to actual size demand instead of relying on one standard pack for every location. This can improve sell-through, reduce leftover broken assortments, lower excess stock, and support more profitable replenishment and allocation decisions.
