NRF 2023 Preview: Top Things for Retailers to See and Do

NRF2023-Blog-scaled

by Camille Chin |  November 8, 2022

NRF, Retail’s Big Show always delivers an unmatched opportunity for retailers of all sizes and verticals to discover breakthrough technology that will streamline, automate and accelerate product journeys from concept to consumer.

Next year’s NRF will once again be held at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, January 15-17, 2023. The Javits Center recently completed a major top-to-bottom renovation that tradeshow-goers may find inspiring.

The facility operates an impressive sustainability program. The Javits Center’s green roof is home to 1400 solar panels, a one-acre working farm, and underground retention cisterns that capture and treat rainwater for irrigation. The rooftop farm generates up to 40,000 pounds of produce annually and it consists of honeybee hives that produce honey.

New to NRF: Consumer Product Showcase

NRF 2023 conference-goers will be equally interested by what’s inside the Javits. New to NRF this year is the Consumer Product Showcase. Taking place January 15 and 16, the showcase will give NRF 2023 attendees an opportunity to discover breakthrough products from suppliers, entrepreneurs, small businesses and brands.

If you’re in the retail industry and you want to diversify your product line with cool new merchandise, then this is a chance to meet with carefully selected small business owners and develop a partnership that will ultimately delight your customers. The list of participating companies is updated regularly. See it here.

Can’t Miss Speaker Sessions

NRF’s annual Keynote Sessions feature a variety of speakers that do not disappoint. Past speakers have included actress and goop CEO Gwyneth Paltrow, Levi Strauss & Co. President and CEO Chip Bergh, and Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella.

NRF 2023’s list of keynote speakers will continue to grow over the next several weeks. Several session topics have already been revealed and the topics on purpose and sustainability seem particularly fascinating. Here are the talks that have us stoked:

• Carol B. Tomé, CEO at UPS, will discuss how the UPS brand combines purpose and strategy
• Emily Erkel, Co-Founder of LePrix, will talk about luxury resale, which is growing 11x faster than traditional retail
• Carlos Londono, Vice President and Head of Supply Chain at Chipotle Mexican Grill, will take the stage to share his insights on why transparency around sustainable business efforts is a driving force in leading strategies

Jesta I.S. will also be taking the stage during NRF 2023. Arvind Gupta, President at Jesta I.S., will host and moderate a Big Ideas session on Monday, January 16 at 11am. The topic is “Turning Disruption Into Opportunity: Global Retailers Weigh-In.”

Jesta’s Big Ideas session will feature expert advice from three leading global retailers on how to successfully navigate universal industry challenges and leverage technology to transform underlying opportunities into growth and profit. Attendees will find out how Careismatic Brands, Designer Brands, and Harry Rosen have effectively pivoted to maximize revenue while adapting to consumer trends and expectations. The session will cover several challenges including supply chain disruption, inventory overhang, inflation, labor shortages, demand dislocation, and ESG compliance.
